VEIL POI

Silk flag poi and veil poi are both types of poi props that emphasize flowing, fabric-based movements, but they differ in design, motion, and visual effect. Silk flag poi, as the name suggests, uses flags made of silk or a silk-like material attached to the poi handles. These silk flags are typically rectangular or square pieces of fabric that extend outward when spun, creating wide, dramatic shapes in the air. 

Veil poi is similar but features longer, often even more lightweight and ethereal, flowing fabric pieces known as “veils.” This veil is not structured like a flag and does not have weighted edges, which makes its motion more free-form and floating. Key characteristics of veil poi include:

The veil is typically a longer, often sheer piece of fabric attached at the end of the poi tether. It might be more narrow than a flag and is generally left loose to flow naturally without any rigid structure.

Veil poi has a more fluid, organic look, creating ghostly trails as it moves. The fabric catches the air with an almost translucent effect, adding mystery and elegance to performances, especially up close or in slower, controlled movements.

Veil poi is often used for dance performances, flowing nature can be appreciated up close, as the veil’s finer details are more easily lost at a distance.
